Chidambaram has made some controversial remarks on Rahul Gandhi in an Interview given to NDTV. He said: "The most acceptable leader today, at least for my generation is Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Among the younger members of the party, there is wide acceptance of Mr. Rahul Gandhi'. India being a large country with 29 states means that other leaders could also emerge. "She is Numero Uno, No.1" he said about Sonia. Appointing Rahul Gandhi as Vice president is a deliberate strategy to handover the bat on to the next generation, he added.
