Union HRD minister Smriti Irani finds herself at the centre of another controversy, after the episode over her low education. The Minister's decision to set up eight more new IITS in the country has met with stiff opposition from the students of existing IITs. As many as 6,000 IIT students across the country have signed an on-line petition asking Smriti to first upgrade the facilities, infrastructure and poor faculty standards of existing IITs and then go for new ones.
