Kumbakonam School Fire Accident: Court gives life sentence to Principal; 10-year jail to Correspondent

District sessions court at Thanjavur in Tamil Nadu has found 10 out of the 21 as guilty in a case related to the ghastly fire accident at a Kumbakonam school, which left 94 children burnt to death and 18 students injured in 2004. Pricial of the school was sentenced to life imprisonment and was imposed a fine of Rs. 47 lakh. Correspondent of the school was given a ten-year jail term. The fire accident was caused by the thatched roof of a kitchen meant for Mid-Day meal scheme and it was billed as the biggest school fire accident in Tamil Nadu.
