Desapathi Srinivas on difference between AP & TS Songs: Open Heart With RK

In this interview, Telangana idealogue and singer-poet Desapathi Srinivas says that the songs of coastal Andhra and Telangana are different. He says, songs in coastal Andhra reflect the needs of investor - be it producer of a drama or of a cinema. In Telangana, songs had the foundation of folklore. The folk songs were then adopted by Praja Natya Mandali and tweaked into songs for Telangana movement, whereas the folk songs lost their sheen in coastal Andhra to the exigencies of business. While Dalits produced songs in Telangana, the leisure class of Brahmins in coastal Andhra produced classical music.
