Talented actress Anjali played the lead role in Geetanjali which is labeled as a horror comedy. Trailers of this film created buzz among film buffs. Did the film live up to the expectations?

What is it about?
Anjali (Anjali) comes to Hyderabad to find clues about her sister who has committed suicide. But people get scared by looking at her. What is the mystery behind Anjali? Why did her sister commit suicide?

Performances:

Anjali: Anjali is a very talented actress and this character doesn't put her skills to test. She excelled whenever she got a chance to showcase her talent. She is too good in the climax sequence. She is definitely a huge asset to the film. But she should keep a watch on her weight. She has put on so many kilos and lost the cuteness in her face.

Others: Rao Ramesh did a brief role but made quite an impact with his expressions and dialogue delivery. Srinivasa Reddy did the role that is almost equal to that of a hero. He did well. Brahmanandam's scenes are poorly written and in bad taste. Ace comedian desperately tries to make this work but in vain. Shankar who imitates RGV steals some moments. Rajesh and others are good in their respective roles.

Technicalities:

Direction: Raaj Kiran had decent content on hand and all he needs to do is to entertain and thrill the audience with a genre that could do wonders if executed well. Director failed miserably in keeping the audience interested in spite of interesting premise. Poor direction is the main reason for the film to go downhill in the second half.

Others: Music is pretty weak. Songs are absolutely not needed in this film. Coffee song is good though. Editing is alright and Cinematography is more than decent. Art director did good job in designing the flat (most of the film happens here) in a colorful way.

Thumbs Up:

Anjali performance
Production Design
Comedy in first half

Thumbs Down:

Hiccups in Second Half
Weak Flashback
Silly Climax

Analysis:

''Horror Comedy'' was highlighted on each and every poster of Geetanjali. It is not mandatory to register the genre of a film in such an aggressive fashion. But after watching the movie one would feel that the makers were literally asking the audience to see this as a comedy film with a hint of horror.

Geetanjali hardly scares you or makes you jump out of the seat. There are neither tension filled scenes nor thrilling moments that are USP of a horror film. Director didn't rely on the horror element in spite of having everything set for it. He concentrated upon the comedy instead. There are some good comedy moments in the film that will have you in splits. But they are very few and far apart.

Geetanjali makes a boring watch between those comedic moments. One would expect the film to get better towards the climax. But this film never hits a high note and keeps on playing below the average mark. Even the climax doesn't thrill as it was shot very ineffectively. Geetanjali is a very average film that has very few moments to cherish. You can wait for the home edition than rushing to theaters.

Verdict:  Geetanjali - Disappointing Comedy!
