The merger of towns and villages surrounding Viskahapatnam into the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) gained significance with the change of government in the state. While Anakapalli municipality has joined the GVMC, case of Bheemili remains hanging. The previous Government has issued a GO merging the two municipalities and 10 village Panchayats. But five of the village Panchayats approached High court and they were exempted from merger. This led to argument against merging Bheemili as it is far away from Vizag and two petitions are pending in the court. Locals are accusing minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao and current MP Avanti Srinivasa Rao for merging of these two municipalities.
